Become a Special Spaces Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Special Spaces. We are excited for this partnership with Northwestern Mutual Foundation. We have been completing rooms together for several years and are excited to launch this campaign in ten cities this fall.  We look forward to your office’s participation and you will find helpful information below. You will receive more information about the campaign from your office lead.

Complete the sign-up form and joint liability waiver to sign up for your volunteer experience. Let us know your availability and any special things you like to do. After you complete the sign-up, you will be directed to the site to order your uniquely created t-shirt from both organizations, sent directly to your home or office.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your office lead and they will connect with our local chapter director.  We look forward to seeing you this fall.

Questions

Will I be designing the bedroom makeover?

No, the bedroom makeover plan is created by local designers and/or team Directors.

Do I need to have special skills to help?

No, we invite individuals with all skill levels to volunteer.

What I will be asked to do?

Jobs can vary based upon the plan for the makeover.  Typical jobs include painting, cleaning, assembly work, crafts, sewing, ironing, lunch coordinator and creating custom décor.

Is there any age requirement to volunteer?

All volunteers must be over the age of 16 or have prior Director approval before arriving to the job site.

Can I bring my own children to help?

Due to the compromised immune systems of our Special Spaces children, we ask that you do not bring your own children to the makeover.

What should I wear?

The Special Spaces day is a “hands-on” work experience. We recommend wearing clothing that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Please leave all valuables at home.

What if I’m sick on the day of the makeover?

Please contact the assigned Director and let her/him know that you will not be attending.  It is very important that all of our volunteers are in good health.

What if my plans change and I can’t be there?

As we assign tasks to each team member, it is important that you contact the Director and let her/him know that you will not be there.
