Meet 17-year-old Whitney! Diagnosed with systemic lupus in 2011, last year, the doctors told her that her disease is affecting her brain. Additionally, she has a heart condition due to the chemo. A 4.0 student her whole life, the impact of the lupus to Whitney’s brain has made it very difficult for her to retain her learning to the level needed to maintain her studies and graduate with her class. In spite of the conditions she battles, Whitney tries to maintain some sense of normalcy in her life. She continues to participate in her church youth group and the local 4H—she and her brother are currently raising 4 pigs! Whitney’s dream room is best described as “Cowgirl Chic”. She likes that rugged western look, softened around the edges with a touch of lace and elegance. Whitney enjoys country music and old pick-up trucks, and the color blue, and wants to be a pediatric nurse.
Thank you to the Bowman’s for referring Whitney and hosting our stay on Friday and to everyone who helped make Whitney’s room possible. To all of our volunteers who graciously gave of their time and talents—you are all AWESOME! And to our sponsors, we are forever grateful. We simply cannot do what we do without you.
