Color is perhaps one of the most wonderful experiences that we take for granted. Take a look around. Color is everywhere, surrounding and embracing us. We interpret life as much through color as we do through shape, texture and sound. Throughout our lives, a sea of colors surrounds us and whether we realize it or not, colors affect our emotions and wellbeing.

Psychological studies confirm what most of us know instinctively – that certain colors can affect mood. Scientists have studied the effects of color on our moods, health, and way of thinking for years. When the energy of color enters our bodies, it stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands. This in turn affects the production of certain hormones, which in turn affect a variety of physiological processes. This explains why color has been found to have such a direct influence on our thoughts, moods, and behavior-an influence that many experts believe is distinctly separate from psychological and cultural factors.

Our most important energy source is sunlight, and the entire spectrum of colors is derived from sunlight. Sunlight consists of the seven color energies: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. We know that each color found in the visible light spectrum has its own wavelength and its own frequency, which produces a specific energy.

Each color affects us differently. By learning how each color influences us, we can effectively use color to give us an extra boost of energy when we need it.

At Special Spaces we believe a key factor to this theory is personal color choice. We put a lot of importance on the color(s) that are selected by our dream bedroom recipients. Colors are all around us. And whether we pay attention to them or not, the colors we surround ourselves with can have a profound impact on our lives. For us the key to this theory lies in personal color choices; we select certain colors for unique reasons and many times we do not realize why these colors have the effects on us that they do.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, “Chromotherapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to cure various diseases.”

While this should never take the place of medical advice, by surrounding yourself with specific colors, meditating on a specific color, or even adding specific colored lights to your home, you can take control of your health in a unique and effective way.

ORANGE
Orange is a great way to boost your confidence, increase your energy levels, and help you to feel encouraged in all of your life decisions. It stimulates the mind and can have the effect of an antidepressant. This increase in confidence and happiness can also be good for creativity.

YELLOW
Surrounding yourself with yellow can be great for giving you a sense of inner power, increasing your positivity, and raising your happiness levels. It builds self-confidence and encourages an optimistic attitude. Yellow can have a positive impact on mood; with yellow items in their bedroom a child with a life-threatening illness may absorb its joyful, healing powers each day.

MAGENTA
Magenta can have the unique effect of giving you a natural boost with its uplifting properties. It is also a great color to include in your life for relaxation.

PINK
Pink is emotionally soothing and calming, and gives a feeling of gentle warmth and nurturing. It lessons feelings of irritation and aggression, surrounding us with a sense of love and protection.

PURPLE
Purple can give you a large feeling of power, as well as an increased peace of mind and strengthened spirituality. The color purple can also help you to relax, giving you a much-needed opportunity to open up your creative side.

BLUE
While many people don’t know why they love the color blue, it actually can have large positive effects on your mental and physical well-being. Blue increases your intelligence, your sense of trust, and your ability to find tranquility in life.

TURQUOISE
Turquoise is a color that is all about truth and calmness. Turquoise enhances communication, sensitivity, and creativity. It is an elevating color that encourages us to make a sparkling fresh start.

RED
The color red is all about passion. Red strengthens, stimulates, and adds passion to all that you do. It can help overcome negative thoughts. Red is a powerful color that has always been associated with vitality and ambition.

GREEN
As the color most associated with nature, green is great at restoring a sense of balance, safety, security, and harmony. The color green can help lower anxiety levels, and is known to have a positive effect upon heart health. We instinctively seek it out when under stress or experiencing emotional trauma.
